Which printer really works
Cheap Bluetooth printers are sold as "for iOS and Android" and a large share of them do not work with an iPhone at all. The difference is which Bluetooth they have inside, and you cannot tell from the listing.

Why this is an iPhone problem in particular
The iPhone refuses to connect over classic Bluetooth to a device without MFi certification. A printer that only speaks classic Bluetooth therefore will not connect to an iPhone at all, and no app can work around it. On Android it works fine.
